In response to this recent article in the Hamilton Spectator: School violence is a crisis, and parents need to speak up, Kim Moran, CEO, CMHO writes:

The writer noted that the issue was untreated mental illness. Children with serious mental health issues or illness can often be aggressive. It's not a parenting problem, it's not a lack of "civilized behavior"; it's an illness. The solution is to get kids the mental health treatment they need. Right now in Hamilton, kids can wait up to a year for treatment. That's not right, just like any illness, kids should get treatment when they need it. Because if they don't, as the writer indicates, the impact is enormous on the child, teachers and other students. I encourage parents, teachers and others to call their MPP, write Kathleen Wynne calling for wait times for kids mental health treatment to be no longer than 30 days.
