Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) is an accredited, progressive Children’s Mental Health Centre providing a range of mental health services for youth and their families. CTYS is known as a widely recognized and respected leader on Equity, Inclusion & Anti-Racism in the children mental health sector and offers award winning specialized services for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and Black identified youth.

As a member of the management team, you will provide direct supervision to a staff team while providing leadership and management for the described services.  Programs include the R.I.T.E.S. Group Programs, Individual Counselling, the R.I.T.E.S. Youth Justice Pilot Program and the George Hull R.I.T.E.S. Collaborative.

The R.I.T.E.S. Program at CTYS

The R.I.T.E.S. Program, funded by the Ministry of Children Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Health, provides innovative and creative mental health programming for Black, African Canadian, Afro Caribbean and Afro Latinx youth and their families. The R.I.T.E.S. Program employs an integrated, full spectrum model of support and care so participants have access to a range of clinical mental health programs, supports and resources. The R.I.T.E.S. Program also implements an asset-focused, strength-based approach informed by research, evidence, and various Africentric cultural and social value systems and practices.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direct clinical supervision and staff support
  • Manage and lead the R.I.T.E.S. Youth Justice Pilot Program and George Hull R.I.T.E.S. Collaborative on behalf of CTYS
  • Support anti-oppression, equity and anti-Black racism Management Leadership Initiatives
  • Sustain positive, collaborative working relationships with Black/ African Canadian communities, mental health care providers, TDSB/ TCDSB schools, Courts, Probation Officers, Elders and crisis services
  • Provide advocacy and structural leverage for staff teams around issues of equity, anti-Black racism and social justice
  • Participate in the selection of evidence-based/evidence-informed practices for the R.I.T.E.S. programs, implement the selected practices, and participate in monitoring effectiveness
  • Support and sustain values of decolonization and racial justice as central to the work, and seek interventions that advance leadership of those most impacted by harmful systems
  • Participate in CTYS’s management meetings
  • Provide leadership in maintaining high functioning staff teams and oversee all admin functions pertaining to staff and the programs
  • Ensure clinical services are delivered in a manner consistent with all applicable agency policies and procedures and accreditation standards
  • Ensure performance measurement data guides and informs quality improvement and service development
  • Shared responsibility for budget development and monitoring
  • Provide clinical and/or administrative coverage for other CTYS programs as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Identify as a member of the Black/ African Canadian/ African Diasporic community
  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education, experience and training (Graduate Degree preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience working in children’s mental health with youth and families inclusive of supervisory experience
  • Membership in the appropriate professional regulatory body (RSW, RP)
  • Experience supervising and implementing identity based therapeutic groups (virtual and/or in-person)
  • Vocal and demonstrated leadership on anti-oppression, equity, inclusion and anti-racism
  • Knowledge of Toronto’s diverse Black communities and services. Capacity to build strong and collaborative relationships with community partners
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the issues and needs of Black/African Canadian youth and families
  • Commitment to practicing from anti-oppressive, anti-racist, equity and trauma informed frameworks
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of group programming, facilitation and dynamics
  • Demonstrated skills in assessment, formulation, counselling, case planning and coordination with youth and families, experience providing individual, group and family interventions
  • Thorough familiarity with the Child and Family Services Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act and other pertinent legislation
  • Knowledge of adolescent mental health issues and community resources to support youth
  • Understanding of harm reduction and social determinants of heath models as they pertain to youth
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive resources to support youth
  • Knowledge in delivering therapeutic services, informed by trauma, attachment and family systems
  • Experience in program development and project management
  • Familiarity and commitment to Evidence Informed Practices
  • Proficient in the use of computers and familiarity with client database software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience supporting virtual services is an asset
  • Proficiency in French language an asset
  • COVID vaccinations required
