MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A current member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and/or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
2. Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health or other related health field.
3. Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Social Worker/Psychotherapist/Therapist.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- A solid understanding of mental health conditions, their symptoms, and appropriate treatment options is essential for effective support.
- Being able to actively listen and understand the concerns and perspectives of young individuals can help in identifying their specific needs and tailoring interventions accordingly.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration with young individuals, court personnel, and other professionals involved in the case.
- The ability to handle crisis situations calmly and effectively is important, as youth court mental health workers may encounter individuals in distress or facing acute mental health crises.
- Skills in organizing and managing caseloads, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating with relevant parties such as probation officers, attorneys, and social workers are essential for ensuring comprehensive care.
- Sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity to provide inclusive and culturally appropriate support to young individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with other professionals, such as judges, probation officers, social workers, and mental health service providers, is important for a holistic approach to supporting young individuals.
- Familiarity with the youth justice system, court processes, and relevant laws and policies is necessary to navigate the legal aspects of the work and advocate for the best interests of young individuals.
- Being equipped with a range of preventive strategies and intervention techniques can help mitigate potential crises and promote positive mental health outcomes for youth.
- Working with vulnerable youth can be challenging, so a youth court mental health worker should possess resilience and self-care practices to manage stress and maintain their well-being.
- Keeping up with the latest research, treatment modalities, and best practices in the field of mental health is important for providing up-to-date and evidence-based support to young individuals.
- Adherence to a professional code of ethics.
POSTING DATE: January 17, 2025

SALARY: $32.61 – $38.97 per hour, + 8% in lieu of vacation and benefits
LOCATION: 129 Kendall Street, Point Edward, Ontario
SHIFT: Standard schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30AM – 4:30PM (Position may require flexible hours to support court work)
CONTRACT START: As soon as possible
CONTRACT DURATION: Three (3) years
CONTRACT CONDITIONS: This contract may be terminated with two weeks notice. Employment is conditional upon a satisfactory police record check (Ontario) dated within the last twelve (12) months of the Agency’s request.
