Position Summary

 

The Director of Finance and Administration delivers critical leadership and oversight of financial operations within Open Doors for Lanark Children and Youth. This position oversees the complete budget process ensuring compliance with financial and risk management policies and fostering optimal resource utilization. The Director contributes to the overall financial health of the organization through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and supervises one finance administrator.  This role will collaborate with the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement long-term financial strategies in alignment with our organization’s goals. Using financial expertise and insights, you will support strategic decision-making by analyzing financial data and identifying opportunities for growth, cost optimization, and resource allocation.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

The Director of Finance and Administration will:

 

Oversee the Finance department and all accounting functions.

 

Deliver monthly analysis of financial performance, monthly variance reports, financial projections, and reports to the Board of Directors and Executive Director.

 

Prepare and submit federal and provincial government remittances and reports as required.

 

Oversee the Payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow management, ensuring timely collection and payment processes. Review all contracts for the agency, maintain contract files.

 

Advise and guide staff in financial matters, keeping them informed about changes in legislation and ensuring optimum resource utilization.

 

Maintain professional status with a designated accounting body.

 

Serve as co-chair on the Joint Health and Safety Act and Regulations Committee

 

Perform any other duties as required and assigned by the Executive Director.

 

Required Skills, Education & Knowledge

 

Financial Acumen: Experience in budget management, financial planning, and a solid understanding of financial principles. Use of GAAP principles.

 

Experience in Unionized public sector environment with TPON reporting and MOH/MCCSS funding experience.

 

Leadership: Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

 

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possess an ability to engage and influence stakeholders.

 

Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic and analytical skills that contribute to the overall vision and growth of the organization.

 

Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in complex situations.

 

Education: Graduate from business administration or management, financial management, accounting or equivalent from a recognized college or university program.

Qualifications: CPA Designation considered a strong asset. If the designation has been attained, it is expected to be maintained.

 

Experience: Minimum 4 years accounting experience. Understanding of working with external and internal stakeholders
