Lumenus Community Services offers a broad range of high quality mental health, developmental and community services for infants, children, youth, individuals and families across Toronto. Our caring and skilled staff consult with community partners, including childcare, school and health care, to help coordinate services. Lumenus Community Services is committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within and outside of the organization, and is looking for a Director, DEI to lead this work. The Director, DEI is responsible for leading and implementing the DEI Plan for the agency, the Director of DEI operationalizes, tracks and monitors all initiatives, programs and events that advance the DEI Plan, and works with the Board, Senior Leadership Team, management team and staff to ensure that internal practices and external services are equitable and inclusive. Examples of initiatives include (but are not limited to) training, education, communications, policy reviews, data collection and analysis, and more.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plays a leadership role in the development and implementation of the organization-wide DEI Strategy, with long-term and short-term goals and metrics. These include initiatives and programs related to education, communication, leadership, community-building and employee engagement and retention, recruitment and client services.
  • Continuously monitors and evaluates the initiatives to ensure they are effective, meet relevant standards and regulations, and improve employee and client satisfaction.
  • Reports on the progress of the DEI Plan and related initiatives. Prepares presentations and updates on achievements throughout the year, including a biannual progress report to be published on the Lumenus website.
  • Works closely with HR to implement initiatives related to internal talent processes, such as recruitment, engagement and learning and development.

  • Provides expert advice and consultation to the CEO, executives, SLT, HR, leaders and staff on all matters relating to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, anti-oppression and anti-discrimination.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications teams to review all communications and social media content related to days of significance, and ensures their timely publication.
  • Facilitates data collection efforts at Lumenus related to inclusion and socio-demographic data (including client, applicant and staff data). Works with invested parties and leverages City of Toronto’s ‘Data for Equity’ Guidelines to ensure alignment between all (internal and external) data collection tools.
  • Analyzes and reports on data and feedback about agency DEI initiatives to ensure accountability, continuous improvement, and transparency with staff and all invested parties.
  • Identifies educational opportunities and leverages the Lumenus Diversity Calendar and internal and external partnerships to coordinate and execute on learning programs and events.
  • Participates in policy reviews/development, working collaboratively with People & Culture to provide input on relevant policies and practices to ensure alignment with diversity, equity and inclusion principles. Develops and revises procedures and guidelines for implementing DEI-related policies, ensuring compliance with legislation such as Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Acts as the Chair of the DEI Committee and provides direction and guidance to ensure their effective functioning and contribution to the agency’s diversity and anti-oppression objectives. Supports various groups and committees as needed.
  • Maintains existing relationships with community partners and proactively fosters new relationships to participate in diversity and inclusion initiatives and working groups.
  • Represents Lumenus within social service sector and ensures Lumenus’ visibility and participation in high-impact community events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Social Work, Sociology, Humanities, etc.) or a combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in DEI, including the management of a diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative or program, setting objectives, creating project plans, tracking progress and giving updates/presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion frameworks and related legislation such as the Employment Equity Act, the OHRC, AODA, etc.
  • Highly effective in communication, time-management, multi-tasking and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and influencing skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and speak on sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to manage resources in a financially responsible and efficient manner.
