ABOUT THE ROLE
The Manager, Urgent Response Service (URS) is a full-time permanent position that supervises the respite services team and provides training, support, and leadership for the staff group who work directly with children and youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families in the provision of respite services. The Manager will provide supervision and oversee respite-based service for children and youth registered in the Urgent Response Service (URS) to improve child and family quality of life and prepare for successful participation in community programs. Services take place at the organization, in community settings or in the home on a one-to-one or group basis.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support intake process and advises on appropriate placement of children in respite, individual or group settings.
- Supports the development of respite plans for individual children.
- Approves respite plans for individual children.
- Creates processes to ensure consistency across service settings and locations.
- Leads the program planning process.
- Provide day-to-day supervision of a multi-disciplinary team and delivery of the Urgent Response Service.
- Facilitates resolutions of complaints or conflicts involving clients, families and staff using a solution-focused approach.
- Communicates with parents/caregivers and provides updates on student progress as required.
- Carries out relevant administrative functions in support of program delivery.
- Monitors service targets, flags program director/manager of any potential issues.
- Manages program supply budgets.
- Leads staff meetings.
- Attends external partnership meetings as required.
THE “MUST HAVES”
The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:
- Undergraduate degree in behavioural science or psychology.
- 5 years of experience in direct clinical intervention with children and families.
- A thorough understanding of principles and conceptual issues of ABA.
- A thorough knowledge of autism spectrum and the clinical applications, mental health theories, adult education, family systems theory, child and family act, along with management theories and practices.
- Knowledge of human resource management and effective labour relations is essential.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as a leader.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and data management systems.
- Awareness of the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
- An understanding of Anti-Black Racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health when working with clients and their families.
- Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of and imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts for the client.
THE ‘NICE TO HAVES’
While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following:
- Previous experience in a supervisory role would be an asset.
- BCBA or working towards BCBA would an asset.
- Knowledge of the cultural diversity of communities served by the agency.
- Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
