In the fall of 2023, members of the Knowledge Institute’s youth advisory council (YAC) met in-person for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Here, they started a discussion about how to share recommendations to staff about ways to support their equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) needs and priorities in projects and virtual interactions generally. Creating meaningful and authentic spaces is a priority for the Knowledge Institute and is a best practice within the Quality Standards for Youth Engagement. This session will describe the resource’s co-development process and will share the finalized recommendations from the YAC members. Participants will leave with increased knowledge of how to support a co-development process and will hear young people’s advice about how to support EDI conversations in organizational and advisory spaces.
Learning Objectives
Participants will increase their knowledge of principles within the quality standards for youth engagement, and how to apply them through the example of a resource that outlines equity, diversity and inclusion priorities of an advisory in the child and youth mental health and addictions sector.
