The New Mentality’s The Gifts of Our People program is a brave space for racialized youth to engage in meaningful dialogue about their lived experiences and the impacts of racism within the sector. Through the reclamation of culture and ancestry, they discover paths of transformation to balance the effects of oppression and mindfully care for their mental and emotional wellbeing.
The Gifts of Our People Session will open with an Art Navigation to ground the participants into a 60-minute introspective conversation, witnessing and being challenged by engaging, open dialogue exploring various aspects of the Black, Indigenous and racialized experience within a Canadian context.
This session invites participants to open and engage, foster understanding, solidarity, and collective growth through a co-creative journey of self and collective exploration. Participants are encouraged to discover and action strategies of accountability in youth engagement, create leadership opportunities for youth to organize and manage projects, and empower them to host braver spaces where racialized youth can unpack their thoughts and emotions, and be equipped to confront the effects of racism in their daily lives.
